TYPES OF WINE BOTTLES ACCORDING TO THEIR SHAPE

Wine bottles come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and each has its own purpose and aesthetic. Here are some of the most common wine bottle shapes:

Bordeaux or standard: This is the most common and recognisable bottle shape. It has pronounced shoulders and a long, narrow neck. It is used for a wide variety of wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Burgundy: The Burgundy bottle has more rounded shoulders and a shorter, wider neck compared to the Bordeaux bottle. It is commonly used for wines such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Burgundy region of France.

Champagne or sparkling: Sparkling wine bottles, such as Champagne and Cava, usually have a distinctive shape with broad shoulders and a deeper base. This is due to the gas pressure formed during fermentation in the bottle. Champagne bottles can vary in size from standard to Magnum and Jeroboam bottles.

Rhône: This bottle has sloping shoulders and a short, wide neck. It is mainly used for wines from the Rhône Valley region of France, such as Syrah and Grenache.

Alta or Fiasco: This bottle has a rounded shape and is often covered with a wicker mesh. It is traditionally used for Tuscan wines such as Chianti.

Bocksbeutel: This bottle has a distinctive, rounded shape with a short, wide neck. It is mainly used for wines from the German region of Franconia, such as Silvaner.

These are just some of the most common wine bottle shapes, but there are many other shapes and styles that are used in different regions of the world and for different types of wines. The shape of the bottle often reflects the tradition and style of the wine it contains, and can influence the visual perception of the consumer.
