A WINE FROM MALLORCA, ELECTED THE BEST SYRAH IN SPAIN

It has been the only Spanish wine to win the gold medal in France.

Within the framework of the prestigious Syrah du Monde International Competition, a Mallorcan wine has been crowned the best Syrah in Spain, obtaining the highest recognition among the national wines presented.

The 17th edition of the contest, held on May 11 and 12, 2023 at Ampuis Castle, in the Côtes du Rhône Norte region, France, brought together 20 countries and 241 samples from all over the world. During two intense days, a panel of 100 international experts had the task of evaluating the different proposals, distributing a total of 80 prizes among the most outstanding wines. Of these, 34 won the coveted gold medal and 46 took the silver.

The wine "Son Prim Sirá 2020", from the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) "Vino de la Tierra de Mallorca", and produced by Jaime Llabres Cladera, was the only Spanish wine that managed to win a gold medal. This award confirms Son Prim Sirá as a reference for Syrah in Spain. In addition, two other Spanish wines were recognized with a silver medal: "Zarihs - Shiraz 2019" from the Campo de Borja Designation of Origin, produced by Bodegas Borsao, and "Puro Vicio Syrah 2020" from the Navarra Designation of Origin, produced by Bodegas Inurrieta.

In the overall medal count, Australia, the homeland of Syrah, stood out with 10 gold and 5 silver medals. However, France, the host country, took the honor of being the nation with the most accumulated medals, with a total of 21, although the majority, 12 in total, were silver.

The Syrah du Monde International Competition stands out among other similar competitions for its global reach and its rigorous judging method. Thanks to their superior quality standards and optimal tasting conditions, the medals awarded are recognized as a reliable selection criteria for wine lovers.
