WINE BOTTLES ACCORDING TO THEIR SHAPE

Did you know that...

Wine bottles have evolved a lot over time. Today we see that wineries have different types to bottle and that when we go to the supermarket or specialized store we see that not all are the same. There are different shapes, sizes and types of closure. Let's look at the most iconic examples.

Bordeaux bottle

Originally from the Bordeaux region (France). This type of bottle is one of the most classic and used throughout the world. Cylindrical in shape, broad shoulders and concave bottom. It is usually dark green in color.

Burgundy bottle

One of the oldest and best known. With a different design from the Bordeaux, it has dropped shoulders and is longer. It differs precisely because it is the bottle used in this area. Its tones are green or brown.

Rhine or Alsatian bottle

Also known as Rhenish, it gets its name from its German origin. This type of bottle is tall and elongated, drawing just a slight curve on its shoulders. It has green color. It usually contains white and rosé wines.

Bottle of Cava or Champagne (Sparkling)

Dropped shoulders and green tones. It has the style of burgundy. It is made of thicker glass and has a characteristic hollow at its base because sparkling wines offer more resistance and generate more pressure.

Sherry bottle

This type of bottle has a Spanish design, with more marked shoulders and whose neck widens at the base. It is usually an opaque bottle that is almost black in color. Contains generous wines, Jerez and manzanillas.

Port bottle

It has a style like the bottle of Jerez with marked shoulders but is usually larger. It has a dark color. They tend to be shorter and wider.
